چکیده

A computer-based filling and emptying diesel engine simulation model has been developed, which can simulate the operational behavior of diesel engine under different performance failures and different running conditions. This paper firstly describes the simulation models and simulated results of a fourstroke, turbo-charged diesel engine. The calculated results in terms of relative deviation are analyzed which reveal the relations between thermodynamic variables, performance failures, running conditions and ship operation conditions. Further, it provides more complete understanding of failures’ behaviors under different running conditions and help to detect the failures amongst complex symptoms. Relative deviation of thermodynamic variables under different running conditions exhibits strong similarity, which induces a new information source for failure detection. Compared to experiments on board ship, this simulative modeling possesses advantages of shorter studying period, less research investment, lower risk in failure simulation and more symptomatic information. Finally an example is introduced to verify the feasibility of relative deviation analysis in the use of diesel engine failure diagnosis with artificial neural network method.

Corrosion Failure Study in an Oil Cooler Heat Exchanger in Marine Diesel Engine

In this article, the failure of a heat exchanger during its operation in the marine environment has been analyzed. This heat exchanger was used for cooling the oil in a marine diesel engine. Based on the existing failure history, damages in engine components were observed after 89 hours of engine working due to the leakage of the sea water to the oil. For the objective of the failure analysis, ...

Thermo-elasto-hydrodynamic (TEHD) analysis of oil film lubrication in big end bearing of a diesel engine

Nowadays, due to the increasing power of diesel engines, especially heavy duty diesel engines, and increasing gas pressure inside the combustion chamber, the forces acting on the engine bearings have dramatically raised. On the other hand, becaus eof the competition in the market, it is necessary to increase the engine bearing life and reduce its failure as much as possible. The engine bearings...

Failure Analysis of a Four Cylinder Diesel Engine Crankshaft Made From Nodular Cast Iron

The premature breakage in some four cylinder diesel engine crankshafts was reported. All crankshafts were failed from the same region. Failures had occurred in the first crankpin, the nearest crankpin to the flywheel. Dynamic analysis and finite element modelling were carried out to determine the state of stress in the crankshaft. FEM results revealed that the first crankpin fillet is the most ...

The Analysis of Wheel Loader Diesel Engine Crankshaft Failure

The main purpose of this study is to review the cause for the crankshaft failure of six-cylinder diesel engine of a wheel loader after passing a short period of time. The failure had occurred after 4800 hours of in-service in the fifth crankpin of the crankshaft. Hardness and tensile tests were carried out to study their mechanical properties. Spectrophotometer machine was used to examine the c...

Fatigue Analysis and Optimization of Crankshaft of V8 Diesel Engine

The crankshaft is one of the most critically loaded components as it experiences cyclic loads in the form of bending and torsion during its service life. Its failure will cause serious damage to the engine so it’s important at the time of design to verify fatigue strength. More challenges in crankshaft design due to increasing vehicle payloads, lower weight requirement, higher efficiency and lo...
